West Virginia State Penitentiary

Moundsville, WV.

A gothic-style prison established in the year of 1866, this facility imprisoned one hundred and nineteen years worth of inmates. Hauntings were reported as early as the 1930’s. It is estimated that nearly one thousand of these individuals passed away while being incarcerated at the facility.

St. Alban's Sanitarium

Radford, VA.

The land that St Albans was built on begins in 1775 with The Draper Meadow Massacre. The murder of five people, including an infant child.  Albans Sanatorium was constructed in 1892, it's first function was a Lutheran Boys School. By 1916, school had been converted into the St. Albans Sanitarium for the mentally ill.

The Ferry Plantation House

Virginia Beach, VA.

The Ferry Plantation House dates back to 1642 when Savill Gaskin started the second ferry service in Hampton Roads to carry passengers on the Lynnhaven River. The house, which is reputedly haunted by 11 spirits, has been used as a plantation, courthouse, school, and post office.

The Exchange Hotel-Civil War Museum

Gordensville, VA.

Served as a Hotel for railroad travelers and then as a Battlefield Receiving Hospital which provided care for 70,000 soldiers, both Confederate and Union. During the Civil War, troops, supplies, and the wounded were transported on these railroads to Gordonsville.

Lake Shawnee Huanted Amusement Park

Princeton, WV.

Until 1783,  Mercer County was home to a Native American tribe.  A farmer's family was killed by the Indians while trying to settle the land. In the 1920s, the land was developed into an amusement park. The rides were responsible for six deaths and the park eventually shut down, but its structures were left.

Deep Creek Vintage

Fredricksburg, VA.

It began as a single-family residence that was built around 1750, was a bed and breakfast, motor lodge and a speakeasy. At one point it was even a doll hospital. It is now a multi-vendor destination spot that provides customers a large selection of merchandise spanning all eras.

Nemacolin Castle

Brownsville, PA.

 Nemacolin Castle was built by the Bowman family in 1789. It is alleged to have been a stop along the Underground Railroad.  Three generations of Bowman's lived here at Nemacolin.  Its twenty-two rooms reflect early colonial to late Victorian living and many of the furnishings are original to the family.

Old City JaiL

Charleston, SC.

The jail, which was operational from 1802 until 1939, housed Charleston's most infamous criminals, and during the Civil War, Confederates and Federal prisoners of war. Some of the last 19th-century high-sea pirates were jailed here in 1822 while they awaited hanging. At one time the location was a hospital, poor house, and  workhouse for runaway slaves.

Pennhurst Asylum

Spring City, Pa.

Pennhurst State School opened in 1908 and flourished for almost 60 years until allegations of mistreatment of residents surfaced. Over the next decade, these allegations were proven to be true and by 1986 the entire complex was abandoned.

Masonic Temple

Hagerstown, MD.

The temple was built by Masons for Masons in 1898.

Whipple Mining Company Store

Scarbro, WV.

The two-story, frame octagon building was built in the late 1800's. The same coal company that employed the workers also owned the store, which was usually the only place in town that people could shop. People have experienced the smell of coal dust or heard strange voices in the store. There have been a few full apparitions of miners.

USS North Carolina Battleship

Wilmington, NC.

Armed with nine 16-inch/45 caliber guns in three turrets and twenty 5-inch/38 caliber guns in ten twin mounts. Her wartime complement consisted of 144 commissioned officers and 2,195 enlisted men, including about 100 Marines. By war’s end, she had lost only ten men in action and had 67 wounded.

Cabin on 360

Mechanicsville, Va.

Built in the 1980s on land that has seen numerous Civil War battles. Over 2,000 men were either killed, wounded, MIA or captured. In the 1970s, the house next door was the scene of a gruesome murder between half-siblings. This was a Co-op investigation with Portsmouth Paranormal Society and Coastal Virginia Paranormal.
